EPA engages with members to further enhance Privacy and Data Security reporting across Europe
29/10/2009
Today the European Privacy Association is delighted to further engage with our Members with an opportunity to Participate in an EPA Working Group entitled: “Harmonisation of notifications to DPAs: reducing complexity for individuals and business”
Under the EU Data Protection Directive, in most Member States data controllers must notify data processing to the national data protection authority (DPA). However, there is no uniformity among the forms and procedures used for notification, even though increasingly data processing is carried out in databases that are accessed in numerous Member States, so that exactly the same data processing may be subject to different notification requirements. This lack of uniformity adds excess bureaucracy to data protection compliance, and decreases transparency for individuals.
This important Working Group will develop a single notification form that could be used across the EU, with the aim of provoking a discussion about the need for greater harmonisation of notification formalities.
Our members are warmly invited to continue in the crucial work to better address privacy and data security issues.
We also extend our invitation with this worthwhile endeavour, for non-members to join our growing membership – either as individuals or as NGO, Cooperate or students, and access this opportunity and others. To do so, please contact our Secretariat: info[at]europeanprivacy.eu.
Uniformity in forms and procedures on notification is a necessary step in bringing together the disparate situation and we’re confident that you will share our enthusiasm
We look forward to hearing from you.
Best Regards,
Pietro Paganini, PhD
Executive Director
